🌫️ 300 Dpi Vs 600 Dpi
If they have the option, it’s worth paying extra for 600×600 DPI upgrade to the typical 300×300. By the way, 600×600 is 4x the resolution of 300×300, but usually costs only a few pennies more per photo. I had about 1000 photos processed at my local shop (Precision Camera in Austin) at 600×600 for about $200. Totally worth not scanning
Neither do I. 300 DPI is just about perfect for prints that will be look at while held in your hand or viewed. As you increase DPI much further you start to meet the point of diminishing returns. Theoretically a 600 DPI is much better than 300 DPI, but you also start to run into the resolving power of the human eye at that point.
For an explanation of what DPI and PPI actually are it is best to read the What is DPI page first. 1) The size (in pixels) of the digital image. 2) The quality of the recording device (camera's optics and sensor, scanner's sensor). 3) The digital format it is stored in (lossless vs lossy compression).
The maximum DPI of a printer is restricted by the hardware it’s using. For instance, while inkjet printers can have a resolution ranging from 300 to 720 DPI, laser printers can go anywhere from 600 to 2,400 DPI. Wait, there’s one more thing you need to know about PPI. It is also used to measure the resolution of physical displays such as
Resolution is not “size”, but it’s often confused with it because higher resolution images are often bigger, but that doesn’t necessarily have to be the case. Print: 300dpi is standard, sometimes 150 is acceptable but never lower, you may go higher for some situations. Web/Digital: DPI doesn’t equate to digital it’s a print measure.
The more dots there are in a fixed amount of space, the more detailed the image will be. In other words, a 600 DPI document will have more detail than a 300 DPI document. DPI indicates how many pixels are found in one linear inch of your printed material (image source). In printing, this factor is crucial for creating a clear, legible document.
It's just the base image you feed MPC with. Check out MPCAutofill, you'll see DPIs mentioned under the images. The higher the DPI, the higher resolution you get, so after print, the higher quality you get. A 1200 dpi card looks just as sharp as a regular MtG card, it's impressive.
Here is the simple Scribus document we will work with, a single US letter page with one image frame, and the entire image adjusted to frame size. The original unscaled photo (JPEG) was 1.5MB in size, so that the resolution in the image frame was 553.5 DPI. Our first experiment will be to compare PDF file sizes with default settings in the PDF
